Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes! I’d love to chat with you about your needs. Please contact me to schedule a friendly free video chat.
This business grew out of working with friends, and my clients often become my friends, so I’d like to get to know you and find the best way to help you succeed!
Do you only teach online?
At the moment I offer online sessions during normal business hours in the GMT time zone. Please contact me if you’d like a free initial consultation to figure out if our schedules are compatible.
What are your prices and how can I pay?
I believe in transparent, equitable pricing. Email me for my 2024 Price List.
I accept payment in USD via Zelle, Venmo, or Paypal. Simply click on your preferred link in my invoice.
I require pre-payment for English language and writing coaching sessions as well as Interview Prep packages and Personal Narratives editing.
Individual editing projects are invoiced after the work is completed, but I’ll provide you with a quote before we begin.
How do your English & writing coaching sessions work?
1. Discovery Call
I always start with a free Zoom chat so that I can learn more about what you’re looking for. Everyone is at a unique point in their learning journey. This isn’t a sales call. I want to hear your story and see if I can help!
2. Client Intake & Invoice
If we agree that we’re a good fit, I’ll send you a client intake form so that you can tell me a bit more about your background and learning preferences. I’ll also send you an invoice with multiple ways you can pay.
3. Scheduling
During our Discovery Call, we may have already discussed meeting times. But, I know that expat life is unpredictable, so you can use my flexible online calendar to book and reschedule our sessions at your convenience.
You’ll always receive a confirmation email when you schedule and a reminder email about upcoming meetings about 48 hours before each session. You can re-book on your own up to 24 hours in advance, or you can always email me if an emergency comes up. I understand!
4. Weekly Sessions
I take the “flipped classroom” approach to tutoring. You’re a busy adult, so I’m not going to look over your shoulder and watch you work on your English writing or speaking. =)
Instead, I’ll prepare personalized practice for you to work on in between our meetings. Then, when we’re together, I’ll answer your questions, give you feedback, and we’ll practice using what you’ve learned.
5. Learning Log
To keep us on the same page and to help you keep track of your progress, I’ll create a Learning Log for you (and a Writing Journal, if that’s your focus). This is simply a shared Google Doc in which we’ll collect your materials, update your weekly practice, and receive feedback.
Can't I just learn English or practice writing on my own?
Absolutely! But have you? One thing I’ve learned about myself as I’ve struggled with French, Russian, Spanish, and German is that I have very good intentions to practice every day, to use all of the free resources on the Internet, to watch movies in my target language, etc. But, honestly, I lack the discipline and I rarely make the time. I need accountability, and I need a guide.
If you’re like me, then I highly recommend working with a language coach. You can make so much more progress if you’re working with a trained professional who can provide a plan and keep you on track.
I offer an encouraging learning environment where you will finally be able to feel like you’re moving forward!
What is "customized writing coaching"?
In my opinion, all writing coaching should be customized! Writing is such a personal act, which is also why so many people are self-conscious about their writing.
I don’t believe that programs that show you videos and teach you writing rules can actually help you very much. Not only are they passive and often lack real writing practice, but they also aren’t personalized to your needs.
We each have our own struggles with writing: for some, it’s grammar, for others, it’s sentence control and commas. Some people can’t think of ideas and others aren’t sure how to organize their ideas.
Why waste time learning what you already do well, when you could focus instead on just the areas that need attention?
As a personal writing coach, I analyze your writing, identify what you do well, and uncover what you need to work on. Then, I develop custom activities to help you develop your strong points and strengthen your weaknesses. Yes, it’s hard work (for both of us!), but it’s what you need in order to really see results!
What is "tailored English tutoring"?
Your learning journey is unique! A lot of English users (especially advanced learners) feel stuck at their current level. Standard ESL/EFL activities aren’t necessarily going to help you when you’re already fairly fluent in English. You might be at a level where you aren’t even sure what you need to do to improve.
Pre-packaged, passive classes with big promises can only teach you what they think you need to know. I take the time to listen to you, then I use my years of experience and expertise to figure out what you really need to move you to the next level.
My individual approach to assessing your needs and working with your learning style can truly help you level up your English skills.
What if I have other questions?

You can also request a friendly, free Discovery Call, and I’d be happy to chat with you!
